Zurn Specification Drainage Products
The Zurn Specification Drainage Operation, previously known as the Hydromechanics Division, has been in business since 1900. In fact, a patented backflow valve was the very first product manufactured by the company that was the foundation of Zurn Industries, LLC.
Today Zurn Specification Drainage Operation is a leading producer of water and wastewater control products for the commercial, industrial and institutional building construction industry. Zurn products are highly engineered and manufactured to meet all ANSI standards and are specified by architects, engineers, plumbing contractors and wholesalers involved in non-residential construction.
The extensive resources of the Zurn Specification Drainage Operation include an automated gray-iron foundry capable of producing Class 25-30 castings to l00 pounds and pouring up to 60 tons per day. To respond to customer needs, Zurn drainage products are part of a complete line of over 4,000 Zurn plumbing products that are distributed through 56 fully-stocked service centers and 97 sales representative organizations located throughout the United States and Canada. The 248-page Zurn Customer Guide lists specifications and technical data needed to properly size roof drains, floor drains, interceptors, carrier systems, hydrants, cleanouts, floor sinks, water hammer arrestors, traps, primers and backwater valves for new or retrofit installation.

News Release
Pending Cancellation of Rebate Program
Toilet Rebate Down the Drain
The city wants to flush away its toilet replacement rebate program. It has been one of the more popular water efficiency programs run by the city, but the costs have been growing. The city paid $330,000 in rebates last year and has $450,000 budgeted for 2010. Staff had to stop the program in 2009 until there was new funding available because the rebates were so popular. The program offers residents a rebate of up to $75 for replacing an existing toilet with a more water-efficient model. The proposed end date for the end date for the rebate program is June 30.

Water Backflow - An important issue
Back pressure occurs when the pressure within a system becomes greater than the supply pressure forcing the system water back into the water supply. Back siphonage occurs when the pressure in the water supply is decreased to 0 or even negative pressure allowing water to be sucked into the water supply. This can be caused by a watermain break, hydrant flushing or fire fighting. Pollutants or contaminants could backflow into the system in either case.
Series 709 Double Check Valve Assemblies - Size 2-1/2 to 10" (65 to 250 mm) prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply. It has a modular check design for easy maintenance and epoxy coated (FDA approved) cast iron body construction. Series 709 is ideal at referenced cross-connections identified in non-health hazard applications. Check with local inspection authorities for installation requirements. Maximum Working Pressure: 175psi (12.06 bar).
